PORT HOPE, Ontario (Sept. 22, 2023) – DLF recently held its inaugural Canadian Seed Camp event at its new research station in Port Hope, Ontario on August 22-23, 2023.
Located one hour south of DLF’s Canadian Headquarters in Lindsay, Ontario, the Port Hope Research Station is the primary site for DLF research and development in Canada. With over 84,000 plots harvested in the past 8 years, DLF’s product development team has used the data collected to identify forage and corn varieties with improved yield, winter hardiness, disease resistance and forage quality.
The first DLF Canadian Seed Camp commenced with an evening reception and dinner in Port Hope. Field agents, distributors, and company staff enjoyed a relaxing evening of food, fun and networking.
The next morning, the groups met at the Port Hope Research Station and toured DLF’s grass and legume forage plots, led by Sylvia Megens, Manager of Product Development, and Matt Anderson, Director of Portfolio Management. Matt Nice, Regional Sales Manager for BASF Plant Sciences, also presented on DLF’s corn genetics and lineup. The tours included new and current product updates, and evaluations of yield, forage quality and disease resistance.
Following a BBQ lunch, Dan Walters, DLF’s Director of Grower Services, and Steve Reid, Head of Lawn and Consumer Turf R&D, gave presentations about DLF’s seed production and research pipeline.
The first DLF Canadian Seed Camp event was a major success, with over 100 attendees and presentations in both French and English. The groups were left with a myriad of information and a stronger understanding of DLF’s portfolio and market presence.
